![You know what time it is… it’s #TestimonialTuesday! As for today's Fun Fact... it’s all about Fascia!
Fascia forms a 3D matrix 🕸 around our organs, muscles, joints, bones, and nerve fibres through a multidirectional and multidimensional arrangement. Fascia is responsible for force transmission throughout the body, helping to prevent localized stress and protecting the integrity of the body while minimizing the amount of fuel necessary for movement. With 10x more proprioceptors (receptors that detect movement) than muscle, our fascial matrix helps us to react to our environment faster than the conscious mind can respond.
Perhaps most interestingly, our mood influences our fascia thanks to its abundance of nerves and blood supply. According to R. Louis Shultz and Rosemary Feitis in "The Endless Web: Fascial Anatomy and Physical Reality":
⭐️“The physical response to emotion is through the soft tissue,” they write. “The fascia is the emotional body. . . . Ideally, feelings are felt in the total body—emotions travel through the fascial web. We then interpret the physiological sensation as anger, affection, love, interest and so forth. . .
The reason your neck can’t straighten and lengthen may be because of the shock of being continually bullied in childhood [i.e.]. Physical work will only partially open that problem unless there is recognition that there may be an emotional origin.”⭐️
These facts demonstrate why a holistic approach to treatment is so fundamentally important. With a matrix of webbing capable of transmitting force and tensions throughout the body, intricately connected to the nervous system and influenced by emotions and psychological traumas both old and new, big and small, fascia must be addressed to achieve optimal healthy living. 💪
